(Scroll down for video) The U.S. government decided to launch an investigation into web giant Google after the company has announced that it is purchasing the Israeli mapping company “Waze”, the government said in a statement.

Google Inc., the owner of the largest search engine in the world, confirmed that he has been contacted by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission with respect to the acquisition of mapping-application Waze.

Google said this month it was buying Waze in a deal that will give it new tools to help users navigate traffic with smartphones.
