Hillel Rudich |
(Scroll down for video) An Israeli man died after he fell into a well while playing balls with his children, according to emergency workers in Israel.
Hillel Rudich, 31, of the Gush Etzion neighborhood of the Israeli controlled West Bank, fell into the natural water hole near the Haritun Cave just outside Tekoa. Rudich owned a bakery "and what he has not managed to sell he used to contribute to people in need," a family friend said.
"He will be missed in our unique community of Tekoa," the man also said. Police said that Rudich died Friday afternoon after he fell into the water well near the Cave of Haritun.
Rudich, who was married with three children, was well-known in Tekoa and operated a bakery. Rudich lived in a trailer with his family and was going to move to a new home in the coming months. His bakery was called “Lechem Levad” meaning “only bread.” "He loved his community and especially the desert landscape. Tekoa was just part of his life," a community leader said.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. Police are investigating whether negligence in maintaining the Haritun Cave Reserve led to the tragedy. An initial investigation revealed that Rudich was out playing with his two children, aged four and five, near the cistern.
Rudich apparently tried to extract his children's ball that fell into the water well, while his children were waiting for him to come out. A passerby noticed two children crying. That is when security forces were called to the area. Two hours later, his body was recovered from the water well. The water well is 6 feet deep, according to police.
