A man was arrested and charged with assault related charges after he stabbed his wife, according to police reports in Haifa, Israel.
Police said that the 81-year-old man was arrested after he stabbed his wife and then himself. The man is currently in the hospital in critical condition while his wife is said to be in stable condition. Police are still investigating the incident.
Police were called late morning to the couple's apartment located in the Shprinzak neighborhood after a loud argument was heard from inside the apartment. The police broke down the front door with the assistance of firefighters, and then detained the elderly man, who threatened the officers with a knife.
The man and his wife were taken to Rambam Hospital. After several hours, the man's condition deteriorated. Hospital officials said that the man fell into a coma. "We will continue the police investigation when the man’s condition improves," a Haifa police spokesperson said. "At this point, it is unknown what led to this incident," the spokesperson added.
