A man is facing criminal charges despite the fact that he was attacked by a bear, according to police reports in Alaska.
The man was maimed by a black bear in Alaska after he threw the animal a piece of grilled meat while riding his bike ride near the Eklutna Lake Campground.
According to authorities, the man, whose identity has not been released, could face charges of illegally feeding wildlife. The man had been drinking before deciding to go on the bike ride, police said.
The bear reportedly ate the meat and did not attack the man until he dropped a second piece of meat. Alaska officials said that the bear had probably gone "ballistic".
Later that day, the rangers found the man all bloody while washing himself at the campsite.
"He was not very consistent," the spokesperson of the Department of Fish and Game of Alaska Ken Marsh said. "He was not even sure that the attack actually happened," Marsh said.
Alaska State Troopers spokesperson Beth Ipse said the man was treated at a hospital for puncture wounds and scratches, to the jaw and back.
When asked if the bear was likely to repeat the attack, Marsh was quick to say no.
"The bear was almost forced into this," she said.
