Marina Solodkin |
Israel received the sad news today that a longtime Israeli Knesset member died while on a trip to Latvia to attend an anti fascism conference, according to press reports in Israel.
Former Knesset Member Doctor Marina Solodkin died Saturday. She was just 60-years-old. Solodkin died in a hotel in Riga where she was attending a conference against fascism.
The former minister was found dead in her hotel room several hours after she was supposed to appear at a television studio. The cause of death is unclear, but it is suspected that she suffered a stroke. The Israeli consul in Latvia is handling the transfer of her body back to Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his deep regret at the death of Solodkin and said: "She was a longtime representative of the people of Israel."
On Friday, Solodkin posted the following message on her Facebook page: "In a few hours I will board a plane to Latvia to attend a conference organized by the Latvian Anti-Fascist Committee.
I will participate in a round table with the European Union and international organizations such as World Without Nazism, as well as legislators and public figures worldwide. Neo-Nazism has been rearing its ugly head in Eastern Europe recently. We must be on guard."
