Albuquerque police said they captured the suspected masked intruder because he was recognized by his grandmother.
Investigators said the victim told police a man wearing a purple bandana over his face entered her house through the back early Friday. She immediately suspected the man to be her grandson, Thomas Clark, 22.
The woman said that the intruder grabbed her. that is when she tore the mask off his face, revealing the face of her grandson.
Clark, who fled with the woman's purse, was arrested about four hours later at his parents' house. He told police he stole from his grandmother after two of his friends convinced him it was a good way to get money for a trip to the casino.
The victim, who told police Clark broke into her house and stole a television last year, said she was recovering from wounds and bruises to her wrist and neck.
Clark was indicted on felony charges Saturday and ordered held on $15,000 bail.
