Ultra-Orthodox Jews fighting with Israeli police officers |
The Israeli public is shocked after an Eda Haredit activist offered cash for pulling the yarmulke off of an Orthodox Jewish police officer, according to eyewitnesses at the scene of a Saturday protest.
While the Israel Defense Forces and the police are doing everything to eradicate violence against Orthodox Jewish soldiers and police officers, the violent campaign against ultra-Orthodox Jewish soldiers and police officers continued to be felt.
A demonstration took place in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighborhood of Mea Shearim on Saturday protesting the desecration of Shabbat.
Jerusalem police, including Israeli border police arrived in an attempt to prevent disturbances that may develop.
During the heated demonstration, one Eda Haredit activist realized an Orthodox Jewish police officer in the crowd of police officers. The man immediately began shouting at the Orthodox Jewish police officer and demanded that his yarmulke be removed.
The protesters announced: "Whoever removes the yarmulke from his head will receive $100." Eyewitnesses said that the man who offered the cash is associated with the ultra-Orthodox Jewish Eda Haredit organization. "There were many who tried to remove the officer’s yarmulke", one of the protesters said.
"No one succeeded in actually removing the officer’s yarmulke as he stood among other officers and anyone who tried was arrested," witnesses at the scene said.
