The man attempted to buy an apartment inside an apartment building project in the city of Acco, when the builder told him that he will not sell him on apartment because he was a Muslim. The man filed a lawsuit against the builder in court.
The court ordered the defendant to pay 50,000 shekels as compensation. The plaintiff agreed to forward the 50,000 shekels to a human rights organization.
Plaintiff Sami Hawari, was represented by the Eliatar Civil Rights Association, who filed the suit against the contractor company "Moshe Hadif" and against the Israel Lands Authority after the company refused to sell him an apartment, because he is a Muslim.
The Muslim man was initially told that there are no apartments available at the building project, but when an undercover investigator, who is Jewish, came to buy an apartment, there were plenty still available for sale.
The "Moshe Hadif" company said in a statement: “It is not company policy to discriminate and we took the necessary steps in order to avoid a similar occurrence in the future.”
