A Corrections officer was arrested after he attempted to blackmail a young girl into having sex with him.
Derek Arnst, was arrested by police in Gage County Nebraska, after he was accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a 15-years-old girl.
Arnst was caring for the victim on New Year's Eve in 2012, during which he discovered adult natured images on the teenager’s iPad.
On a later date, he sent the teenager text messages asking about the images and he requested sexual favors in exchange for not telling her parents about them.
Deputies arrested Arnst after the Department of Health and Human Services issued a report accusing Arnst of sending sexually explicit text messages to the 15-year-old.
He reportedly told investigators: "I must admit that it was inappropriate and I should not have gone down this road. I'm sorry."
Arnst worked as a social worker at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution. After his arrest, he was suspended without pay, and he resigned shortly thereafter.
