(Scroll down for video) About 3 dozen Muslims were left dead after clashes broke out between Shiite Alawites, a sect of which Syrian president Bashar al-Assad belongs to, and Sunni Muslims, in Lebanon, according to a statement released by hospital officials in Lebanon.

Armed clashes in northern Lebanon between Sunni Muslims and Alawites, have killed 30 people, a security official confirmed today.
Rocket propelled grenades, mortars and machine guns, were used in the six days of clashes in the port city, in the most severe lethal violence to rock the country, in recent years.

Most of the fighting has been between the Sunni neighborhood residents of Bab el-Tebbaneh who support the rebels fighting to topple Assad and the local Alawite Jabal Mohsen group, who support Assad.

Four people from Bab el-Tebbaneh were reported dead on Friday night, the security official said, including one who died of his wounds later. Three others, including a soldier, were killed in Jabal Mohsen.

The fighting ceased at dawn, but snipers were still operating in the area.

“The senseless killings between Muslim sects must be stopped. World leaders along with Muslim leaders, must set up a force to deal with the civil wars raging in many different Muslim areas, which disrupt the lives of innocent women and children,” Ismail Khan, 39, of Detroit, Michigan told YourJewishNews.com after being asked to comment on the recent deadly clashes in Lebanon.

Thursday was the bloodiest day, with 11 deaths.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
