A teen was arrested and charged with armed robbery related charges after robbing children while brandishing a knife and demanding just $1, according to a statement released by the New York Police Department.
The Brooklyn, New York teenager was arrested for going on a three days robbery spree last week, in which he only demanded $1 from each of his victims. Police said the 15-year-old suspect, whose name has not been revealed, stole from at least six children between the ages of 12 to 16, between Monday and Wednesday, last week in Carroll Gardens.
In all cases, the suspect brandished a knife at the children and demanded $1 from each victim. The suspect was unsuccessful in four of the incidents, but netted $12 from a 13-year-old victim, and stole a wallet from a 14-year-old victim. Police did not say how much money was inside the wallet.
Specifically, in the first incident, at approximately 7:00 am, the suspect approached a 12-year-old near Court Street and Second Street, brandished a knife and demanded $1. The victim resisted and fled the scene. No property was removed.
The second incident occurred at approximately 8:20 am, where the suspect approached a 14-year-old, near Henry Street and Second Street, brandished a knife and demanded $1. The victim resisted and fled the scene. No property was removed.
The third incident occurred at around 8:29 am, where the suspect approached a 15-year-old, near Court Street and Second Street, and demanded $1. The suspect searched the victim's pants pockets and fled the scene without property.
The fourth incident occurred at about 7:20 am, where the suspect approached a 13-year-old, near Smith Street and President Street, brandished a knife and demanded $1. The victim complied and handed cash to the suspect.
The fifth incident occurred at approximately 4:30 pm, where the suspect approached a 16-year-old, at 354 Hamilton Avenue, wielded a knife and demanded $1. The victim resisted and fled the scene. No property was removed.
The sixth incident occurred at 8:00 am, where the suspect approached a 14-year-old, near Smith Street and President Street, and demanded money. The victim complied and handed over his wallet to the suspect.
“This teen probably has serious issues at home. Why would he go through with 6 armed robberies just for $1? His parents need to be thoroughly investigated,” Bonnie Ford, 23, of Brooklyn, New York told YourJewishNews.com after being asked to comment on the teen’s robbery spree.
The teenager, who lives in Red Hook, has been charged with robbery after he was identified by the victims in a police lineup at the police station.
