Jocelyn Mather with her handbags |
A fashion designer came up with a way to use the waste of a cow by turning it into beautiful handbags.
The student, based in Edinburgh, Scotland, is sure to turn heads with her creation of handbags, which are made out of cow waste.
Jocelyn Mather, created a line of handbags made from the stomach lining of a Highland cow. Mather is a 23-year-old student at the Edinburgh Napier University, in the United Kingdom. Mather, who is in her fourth year at the university, loves animals.
She realized that only forty percent of a cow is edible while many other parts go to waste. Parts of the cows stomach is actually used as dog-food. "I wanted to show more respect for this stunning animal by using its less palatable pieces to create something beautiful and unique," Mather said.
She created beautiful and unique purses, clutches and handbags. The closures were also made with the animal's horns. After she finished her products she showed it to her teacher. "My teacher said it would look great on Lady Gaga," she said. Four of her bags, which were all hand sewn, will be on display at the university's Creative Degree Show.
“She is very creative, and the handbags are very nice and classy. There are many people like me, who are looking for recycled items. I love the idea. I would definitely buy one from her if the price is affordable,” Heather Anderson, 27, of Brooklyn, New York, told YourJewishNews.com after seeing the photo of the handbags.
The 23-year-old student hit a setback when her apartment was raided by agents of the wildlife. "My leasing agent had been carrying out an inspection at my home and he saw a pair of cow horns. He thought they were ivory tusks and called police. I was terrified, but they just laughed when they saw the horns," Mather said.
