Chabad men helping tornado victims |
An ultra-Orthodox Jewish meat and poultry processing plant donated thousands of pounds of meat to the Oklahoma Relief Fund after deadly tornadoes wreaked havoc on the state, according to a report on FailedMessiah.com.
Agri Star, the company that took over Rubashkin’s Agriprocessors, donated 20,000 pounds of meat products to the Oklahoma tornado relief fund.
The donated meat and poultry products, which are estimated to be worth more than $50,000, were shipped from Postville, Iowa yesterday afternoon, Agri Star spokesperson Jo-Ann Chadbourne said.
Masiba Soup Kitchen of Brooklyn, New York, was trying to raise funds for the shipping costs of approximately $3,000 which it has received from the National Council of Young Israel, Chadbourne said.
The food, many of which are already cooked products such as chicken nuggets or deli, will be delivered to Chabad of Oklahoma City, which has turned itself into a shelter for victims and a resting place for rescue and recovery workers.
“Agri Star has done a wonderful act of kindness for those suffering from the deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma. I am sure that the victims will forever be grateful to the Jewish company for helping them in their time of need,” Brenda Bishop, 41, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma told YourJewishNews.com after being asked to comment on the donation.
Agri Star has also donated a large amount of meat in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Chadbourne said.
