(Scroll down for video) A girl has invented a new device that will charge a cellphone battery in just 20 seconds.
The 18-year-old Indian-American girl has invented a super capacitor device that will charge a cellphone battery in less than 20 seconds.
Eesha Khare of Saratoga, California, was awarded the Young Scientist Award from the Intel Foundation after developing a small device that fits inside mobile phone batteries that could allow it to charge within 20 seconds.
The so-called super capacitor, a device that can pack a lot of power into a small space, charges the phone battery quickly and holds its charge for a long time.
Khare has received $50,000 to develop the small device. She has also attracted the attention of technology giant Google for her potentially revolutionary invention.
According to the teen, her device can last 10,000 recharge cycles compared to 1000 recharge cycles of conventional rechargeable batteries.
"My mobile phone battery always dies," she said, when asked about what inspired her to work on energy storage technology.
Super capacitors allowed her to concentrate on her interest in Nanochemistry. "I really work at the nanoscale to make significant advances in many different fields," she said.
“Finally, a great product that we all wanted a long time ago. My phone battery always dies quickly, and soon I will be able to recharge it in just 20 seconds. Life cannot get better,” Lynn Graham, 19, of Glendale, Arizona told YourJewishNews.com after being asked to comment on the super fast recharging battery.
The gadget has so far only been tested in an LED light, but the good news is that it has a good chance of working successfully in other devices such as mobile phones.
Khare sees it fitting inside cellphones and other portable electronic devices in the world today.
"It is also flexible, so it can be used in screens, clothing and fabric. It has a large number of applications and advantages over traditional batteries in that regard," she added.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
