Eileen Hart with her daughter |
(Scroll down for video) An Orthodox Jewish woman was arrested and charged with terrorism related charges after she began reading the constitution during a tax protest, according to press reports in New Jersey.
The New Jersey mother, who was arrested, was also ordered to surrender her weapons after the reading of the Constitution and peacefully protesting at a tax forum.
Eileen Hart was with her husband Keith and their daughter, 7-years-old, were at the Gloucester Community Center to protest a mandatory home reassessment that roughly doubled the value of her property.
As an Orthodox Jew, she refused to let the inspectors into her home when her husband was away at work. As a U.S. citizen, she opposed the reassessment, noting that she is not thinking of selling her home and has not renewed her kitchen in 30 years.
But at the forum, Hart was allegedly told that since she did not let the inspectors into her home, they had no choice but to assume her home value doubled.
"How could they assume that my value doubled when there is absolutely no housing market," she asked?
After Hart began citing the Constitution, a representative of the Appraisals Systems Inc., the company contracted by the state to conduct assessments, began freaking out, she said.
To her surprise, when Hart returned home she saw numerous police cars in front of her home. Police officers ordered her for an interrogation even though they did not have a warrant.
She was forced to ride in the police car to the police station.
Hart said she was doubly surprised when, instead of getting her side of the story, the police handcuffed her to a chair and charged her with making terrorist threats.
Hart is deeply saddened by the whole situation.
As the daughter of a Holocaust survivors, Hart said she cannot help but remember the large-scale weapons and the invasion of private property, which occurred when Hitler invaded Poland.
"If citing the Constitution makes me a terrorist, we are in Hitler’s America," she said.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
