A woman had a twisted idea how to celebrate the end of her driver’s license suspension, according to a statement released by Chicago, Illinois police.

An Illinois woman, who was arrested early Friday morning for driving under the influence of alcohol, told police she had been drinking to celebrate the fact that she was getting her driver's license back after a previous drunken driving conviction, police said.

A police officer in the Chicago suburb of Riverside observed the driver, Erin James, speeding around 2:10 a.m. on Friday. After stopping James, the officer suspected her to be under the influence of alcohol.

The 58-year-old driver, a resident of Brookfield, failed several sobriety tests and was arrested, police said.
In the Riverside Police Department, James provided a breath sample that showed an alcohol content of 0.155, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08, police said.

While being processed for the DUI charge, James told the officer why she was drinking. She told officers that she was celebrating the fact that she would be getting her license back after a DUI arrest in 2012, police said.

“This woman is a danger to the public. She should never get her license back, and if she is ever caught driving against she should be jailed for life,” Lolita Kirkland, 45, of Chicago, Illinois told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the DUI.

"James took another vehicle which was not equipped with an ignition interlock device, and was heading back from a Forest Park bar, where she went to celebrate the fact that she finally has her driving privileges again after her 2012 conviction for DUI," Riverside police Chief Tom Weitzel said in a statement.

"James is exactly the kind of driver you want to keep off the road permanently under a new DUI law being proposed in the very near future," the police officer added.
