Planting in celebration of World Naked Gardening Day |
If you saw a strange sight of naked people planting flowers don’t worry, they were just celebrating “World Naked Gardening Day.”
Gardeners across the United States, took their clothes off and planted flowers to celebrate the 10th annual World Naked Gardening Day, organizers said.
Mark Storey, 54, began the event with his friends after asking respondents in a survey what they like to do while nude.
Swimming, was the number one thing people said that they like to do naked, while gardening came in at the number two spot.
So Storey, of Seattle, decided to put aside May 4 to encourage people to exercise and connect with nature, while naked, he said.
"The naked connection to gardening is quite natural," he said. "There is no widely accepted naked body around, so the idea is for people to try it out. Maybe they will realize that the human body is fine, and also beautify the earth a little," Storey added.
“I think that the event is a good idea not only because it gets people to reconnect with nature, but also because, so many young men and women, are very self conscious about their bodies, and by seeing other people naked they might appreciate their own naked bodies a little bit more,” Janell Good, 38, who planted some flowers naked in celebration of “World Naked Gardening Day” in Providence, Rhode Island told YourJewishNews.com.
There was not one large gathering for the event, held on Saturday. Instead, gardeners across the country celebrated the event in their own way.
"It could be an old woman in downtown Chicago with a potted plant, or a group raking leaves at a strip club," Storey said.
